Sustainable Agriculture Project, Ecuador

Rising health problems and the idea of sustainable development makes organic farming a popular agricultural practice in Ecuador. There are no chemicals used at all for anything - all fertilizers are organic, and the pesticides are made of chilli peppers and jalapeno peppers. The idea of sustainable development is making organic farming a popular agricultural practice in Ecuador.

Volunteers will participate in a wide range of integrated farming and sustainable agriculture projects throughout Ecuador. Many of our program sites offer different ways of learning about Ecuadorian agricultural practices while helping the local communities with fruit and vegetable production.

In this project, volunteers will collaborate supporting ongoing organic farming program aimed at developing socially and ecologically sound organic farming practices. In Ecuador we have numerous organic farms where participants can volunteer. The farms are owned by a single family or group of families and are located in rural areas. The objective of this project is to stimulate the exchange of culture and knowledge between farmers and volunteers, through agricultural and environmental conservation work with the farmer families.

If you are interested in learning more about organic farming and filling your belly with eco-friendly edibles, working at an organic farm is a great option. As a volunteer, you will participate in all or most of the following: planting, transplanting, weeding and organic weed control, harvesting, pest control, compost making, fertilizers, permaculture, recycling organic waste, composting toilets, animal care and feeding (depending on the farm), etc.
