Summer Volunteer Programs – Is Your Teen Interested?

Why are summer volunteer programs so great? To give back to others less fortunate in appreciation of so many things that they had received in their lives is a magnanimous and a meritorious desire shared by many of our teens. I know that a lot of our teens feel very strongly about it in spirit, though they are hampered by a tremendous amount of school work including many after-school activities they have to participate in; that saps up all their energy and time. However, I have observed that Summer Volunteering Programs provide our teens with a lot encouragement and guidance to engage in this type of social work competently and methodically.

There is an abundance of Summer Volunteer Programs specializing in different aspects of social work to choose from. Maybe your interests too center on getting houses rebuilt, helping orphaned and homeless children or feeding malnourished children. Some of Summer Volunteers’ more popular and ambitious programs concentrate on children’s orphanages, multiple non-profits, soup kitchens and homelessness. To set about in the effective service of others in a meaningful manner, you should first decide which type of cause you would like to be associated with and then decide on the program that offers the best opportunities for such a program of work before selecting one out of the several summer volunteer groups affiliated to that program for you to work with.

Most of these summer volunteering programs that are implemented outside the United States have contributed immensely to cultivating new thinking patterns in the minds of the volunteers and broad basing their desire to help the world’s needy. I have talked with many volunteers including small kids who have been to far away countries to engage in activities such as helping underprivileged children in India and helping save the environment in Costa Rica. When I talk to these volunteers who are mostly children, there is one common message that I get from all and that is what life changing experiences they have all been through.

For kids who wish to stay in the United States too, there are several options available with summer volunteering programs to which a recent entry has been Julian Krinsky’s Community Service Program from Philadelphia. This camp is doing great. It conducts classes for kids and teaches them about the root causes behind many of the current social issues; apart from taking them to shelters and food kitchens. According to two of the privileged teens that attended this program in 2007, they said they were surprised that there were people in the States who lived in such pathetic conditions; and added what a valuable eye-opening experience they had been through thanks to this program.
